Two people. A woman and a man. They are in the middle of life. Too old to still be young. Too young to accept that nothing is possible anymore and nothing is necessary anymore. They are standing still. Like in the race: balancing with your feet on the pedals you are in full movement, but you are no longer moving forward. In ‘Surplace’, Mieke Laureys (Johnny MUS) and Danny Ronaldo (Circus Ronaldo) take stock together. Two players who have known and appreciated each other for years share their love for the small stories behind the human. Their meeting on stage is a duet of tenderness, humor, and recognition. ‘Surplace’ is not a performance about being old, but about the road to it. Live music of accordion and flute weaves through their playing, comfortingly lifts the memories, or perhaps just lights the fire again. ‘Surplace’ is not a performance about being old, but about the road to it. About the illusion that you can plan life and bend it to your will, and the realization that growing old does not let itself be directed anyway.
