A bayonet becomes a screwdriver. A shell casing becomes a tamper to lay floors. How beautiful it was, when people came back after the Eerste Wereldoorlog to their completely destroyed city of Ypres, where they took up weapons, not to fight, but to work, to set their houses straight again. Just like in Isaiah 2, 1-5, ‘They shall beat their swords into plowshares’, this actually happened in the Westhoek. You see a bayonet-rap, a shell casing that didn't want to do humanity any harm, and authentic war material that you may look at and even touch after the performance (everything safe of course and nothing works anymore). WWI should have been the war that would end all wars? Did this happen? Unfortunately, the answer is a clear no, and that is why our performance does not stop at this war at all. Other wars are discussed, such as the Tweede Wereldoorlog which, for example, wreaked havoc in Antwerp. A song about Lien's grandma about the bombed Mortsel on April 5, 1943, and how the consequences of that can still be felt today. War lasts for generations and non-violence can therefore be promoted endlessly. Current events are also discussed, to then end with a call for peace. A fascinating journey from WWI to now! In a playful, understandable, and creative, certainly not too heavy way, there is singing, stories are told with beautiful matching images and own film creations. Lien & Bart wrote all lyrics and music and accompany themselves as a duo. Lien sings and plays accordion, flutes, and piano. Bart sings and plays guitar and harmonica.
