This double concert is an absolute opportunity: the Swedish top duo Väsen joins forces with Gudrun Walther & Jürgen Treyz for a unique musical meeting. Four top musicians go in search of the shared roots of the Swedish and German traditions and together create fresh, contemporary folk. Väsen has for years been considered the figurehead of Scandinavian folk music. Nyckelharpavirtuoos Olov Johansson and multi-instrumentalist Mikael Marin (viola, violoncello da spalla) are known for their intense interplay, sophisticated arrangements and immersive original compositions. Their concerts excel in virtuosity, dynamics and an almost telepathic musical connection. Gudrun Walther (vocals, violin) and Jürgen Treyz (guitar) are among the leading figures of the German folk revival and are known from the internationally touring band CARA. Their music builds bridges between Ireland and Germany, with influences from all over Europe, jazz, blues and classical music. Virtuoso instrumental passages alternate effortlessly with warm, expressive vocals and a surprisingly full duo sound. During the concert, Väsen and Gudrun Walther & Jürgen Treyz first play a few pieces in their own duo setting, after which the four musicians come together in a sparkling, immersive quartet finale. This way you first get to hear the intimate power of each duo, followed by the full, rich sound of the complete ensemble. For this special project, the four musicians dive into historical dances and songs from archives in Berlin and Stockholm. Minuets, polonaises and polskas form the starting point, supplemented with original compositions and new arrangements.
