Saturday, June 20 Concert 2: Delle Donne Consort - Renaissance and revolution Recorder ensemble 'Reframed' starts from old melodies as a starting point and reworks them through improvisation, transformation, and new sound approaches. The performance acknowledges that every performance of early music is inevitably contemporary and starts from the urge to rethink material. This creates a continuous dialogue between times, which questions our listening as a game of memory and perception. After having to flee Syria in 2015, musician and visual artist Shalan Alhamwy found a new home in Belgium. He explains his project 'Hoort mi aen', for which he was inspired by the medieval Brugse Gruuthusehandschrift. Marius Burgelman shares his passion for photography and jazz music, with a special fascination for the jazz scene in South Africa. Hanne Deneire speaks about music as a source of resonance, connection, and meaningful contact for people with dementia and everyone who provides care. Jef Neve tells how he has interwoven his own compositions and improvisations with the music of Palestrina, in the concert 'War and Peace' which will premiere in Ostend in collaboration with Dionysos Now!. The original texts are linked to new creations by young people, who reflect on the themes of medieval poetry through spoken word: love in all its forms, friendship, citizenship, and identity.
