In 1943, an airplane drops thousands of copies of ‘Liberté’, a poem by Paul Eluard, over occupied France. Francis Poulenc clandestinely composes his cantata ‘Figure Humaine’ on this, a powerful ode to liberation. In 1946, the NIR, predecessor of the Vlaams Radiokoor, premieres this cantata on the Sender Brüssel just liberated from the Nazis. Exactly 80 years later, during a staged radio broadcast, Filip Jordens slips into the skin of special guest Francis Poulenc – Poupoule to his friends. He is surrounded by the virtuoso musicians of I SOLISTI and the Vlaams Radiokoor, while Maaike Cafmeyer as an inspired presenter keeps the conversation on the right track. Together they slide through the folds of time in the studio, past emotional testimonies and hilarious singing together. ‘Radio Poupoule’ is a very special way to get to know Poulenc: his kaleidoscopic oeuvre, his colorful personality, and the many unexpected musical ties with Belgium. With the cherry on top, the wonderfully surreal ‘Le Bal Masqué’. The seasoned Poulenc fanatics of music theater collective Les Âmes Perdues, who celebrated the hypothetical 125th anniversary of their favorite composer for a whole year in 2024, take the direction. In collaboration with Wilde Westen. Schouwburg Kortrijk is a proud UiTPAS partner. Save UiTPAS points during the performance. Are you entitled to a ticket at a reduced rate?
