Voor Family invited theater maker Louis Janssens and four players from different generations to stand on stage with him. They tell stories, ask questions, and seek comfort, support, and recognition from each other. A story about how family ties connect us and how they inevitably determine our lives. About blood family and chosen family. About parents, children, growing up, and the fear of being left behind alone. As the performance progresses, the players on stage also seem to become each other's family more and more.
Family is a poetic and recognizable text performance about the universal given of family. Starting from a queer perspective, a larger human story is told about having and searching for a family.
Louis Jannsens previously made the performances Serenade, Analoog (CC De Werft, 2024) and Desire. Now he is making the performance Family together with an intergenerational queer cast consisting of Peter Seynaeve, Maureen Teeuwen, Mourad Baaiz and Francis Geeraert. Family was mentioned in the year-end lists of Knack Focus, Etcetera, and NRC as one of the best performances of 2025!
