Sound as mass versus sound as meditation in a groundbreaking double bill
They were both on edge, but never neatly in the middle: Iannis Xenakis and Giacinto Scelsi moved along the frayed outer edges of the post-war avant-garde, each with a radically unique compass. Xenakis built music as architecture, inspired by natural processes – raw, mathematical and physical. The sparse Scelsi zoomed in on the core of a single note, as if he wanted to unfold time itself. In this concert, two complementary worlds meet: sound as mass versus sound as meditation. Prepare for an intense listening experience, with music that does not seduce softly but drags you along mercilessly.
