What’s New? The New EU Pact and Its Impact on Migration Detention in Belgium

Tue, 2 Jun 2026 · 12:00
UCSIA - Manresazaal, Antwerp
Free
Immigration detention is one of the most contested aspects of European migration policy — and with the new EU Pact on Migration and Asylum now in force, the debate is more urgent than ever. What does detention look like in practice? Who are the people behind the statistics? And are there more humane alternatives? On 2 June , UCSIA and MIGLOBA bring together researchers, legal experts, and civil society practitioners for an open panel discussion in Antwerp. Speakers include Lars Breuls (VUB), Emmanuelle Vinois (Caritas International), and Ruben Bruynooghe (JRS Belgium). The discussion will be conducted in English. Free entrance — registration required.
