About under sea | Jan D’Haene

In ‘Over onder zee’ (About under the sea), Jan D’Haene takes you to the bottom of the sea, a place of peace and silence, where imagination and curiosity play the leading role. Along the way, we discover that searching sometimes takes longer than expected - and that we might even find something we didn't expect at all. The performance is a playful exercise in attentive listening. Children experience how sounds can become music and discover that they can also make music together with objects around them. The story is partly autobiographical: an overstimulated character takes some distance from the hustle and bustle of the big gray human world and seeks peace in an imaginative underwater world. Packed with accessible interactions, we play with rhythms and pitches. Slowing down for a moment, experiencing silence, and seeking peace are an essential and valuable part of the performance.
