TRAUM explores the relationship between a son and his father, a survivor of the third great war, and the way in which family traumas work through generations. In a frame story, we follow the conversations between son Siem and father Garnik, interspersed with imagined scenes from the parents' war past. Rabbits, foxes, and power games. By situating the story in an indeterminate time and place and using animal masks of rabbits and foxes, this performance becomes an absurd allegory about victimhood, perpetration, and the repetition of violence patterns: themes that are painfully relevant today. TRAUM weaves personal themes – grief, family ties, identity formation – with political themes such as the rise of authoritarian regimes and collective oppression. This is the second performance by Roeshoofd, the company around Simon De Vos and Lukas Bulteel. For this new creation, they are inspired by the cult graphic novel Maus van Art Spiegelman. Simon De Vos wrote a brand-new theater text for this. Theater FroeFroe creates the animal heads. Geert Van Rampelberg, Lukas Bulteel, Evelien Bosmans and Lotte Valckenaers act. Tim Vanhamel (Millionaire) puts a nostalgic musical blanket over it.
