Ten years of Fleming in training
Amor Fati. That is Latin. Translated? Love for fate. Fate brought Jan Jaap van der Wal to Belgium ten years ago, where – let's be honest – life is fantastic, but where things also often go fantastically wrong. He embraces that with pleasure too.
Because whether we perish from a possible war or a budget deficit, or we choke on a shrimp croquette at the seaside: we will perish anyway. Let's do it with a big smile then.
Jan Jaap van der Wal has been a comedian for almost thirty years and has already performed four full-evening shows in Flanders, including the acclaimed election conference Geen Stem. On television, he made a splash in De Ideale Wereld and Jan Jaap Op Zondag. Amor Fati is his biggest Flemish show to date.
He is now enough of a Fleming to lecture us, but remains enough of a Dutchman to do it with a disarming arrogance. - in De Standaard
