Jimpa

Frances, a young trans teenager, joins her mother Hannah on a trip to Amsterdam to visit Jimpa, her gay grandfather. When Frances expresses the wish to stay with him for a year, Hannah is forced to question her own understanding of parenthood. In this tender and radiant film, Sophie Hyde weaves the intimate with the universal. Through Frances’s perspective and the unspoken wounds carried by the adults around her, the film delicately explores family bonds, plural identities, and the ways in which values and experiences are passed from one generation to the next.
