Kinky hair | Between heritage, prejudices and pride
Sun, 4 Oct 2026 · 13:30
Rue Traverse 9, Trois-Ponts
Did you know that our hair says something about our history and the way we see ourselves? Did you know that kinky and textured hair carries stories of abundant creativity, suffering, transmission, resistance, and self-affirmation? Let's talk about it in good company!
From traditional hairstyles with unknown richness to contemporary expressions of the "nappy" movement, let's discover the history of afro hair. Until recently, reduced to stereotypes, devalued, or forced to conform to dominant norms, they are now a space of expression, pride, and self-reappropriation for many afro and afro-descendant people.
In the company of our three speakers, let's untangle the history, cross perspectives, measure the stakes, and share experiences around a subject that touches on more than appearance.
This exhibition takes place in the "A REBROUSSE-POIL" (Against the Grain) program offered in Trois-Ponts and Stavelot from August 30 to December 1, 2026.
