In 2027, it will be two hundred years since Beethoven passed away. This fortepiano recital reflects on his lasting legacy and the deep impression he left on the generations of composers who followed him. Central to the program are works by Beethoven himself, performed on the instrument for which they were originally written. The fortepiano allows the expressive power, the refined sound colors, and the innovative pianistic language of his music to come into their own in a special way. In addition, music sounds by two composers who not only admired Beethoven but also actively contributed to the veneration of his memory. Robert Schumanns monumental Fantasie in C major, op. 17 and Felix Mendelssohns Variations sérieuses, op. 54 both originated in the context of a fundraiser for the Beethoven monument in Bonn, his birthplace.
