Silence - Directed by: Martin Scorsese

After years of refining, writing, and preparing, master director Martin Scorsese was finally able to unveil his dream project: a film adaptation of 'Silence' by Shusaku Endo, a book he read in 1989 and which has not let go of him since. The story takes place in 17th-century Japan: two young Portugese Jezuïetenpriesters (played by Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver) travel to Japan to search for their beloved but missing mentor Ferreira (Liam Neeson). In In Japan, however, the presence of priests (and the Catholic faith tout court) is strictly forbidden. It is whispered that Ferreira, after severe torture, converted to Buddhism and now has children with a Japanese woman. Once in Japan, the search for Ferreira grows into a nerve-wracking ordeal for the two priests, both for their endurance and for their conviction….
