Iphigenia is the daughter of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra. Her father plans to sacrifice her to the goddess Artemis to get a favorable wind so that the Greek fleet can set sail for Troy. Then the Trojan War can finally begin, the mother of all wars. De Portugese writer and theater maker Tiago Rodrigues wrote a radical re-reading of this tragedy. In it, Iphigenia no longer passively undergoes her fate but decides on it herself. Iphigenia thus becomes a powerful, autonomous woman, in the line of Antigone, who gives meaning to her own life instead of submitting to divine arbitrariness or decisions of men who want to wage war so badly. Rodrigues introduces meta-theatrical elements in which the story is constantly questioned. He switches between different versions; history becomes memory and dialogue. What do we still know of the original story? Can this story also be told differently? Who is to blame or responsible? How can we resist? Nine performers ponder these questions and tell a story that shows that war is never just about politics but primarily about the human price paid for it. The students of the Word department of AMWD ponder the same text as De Roovers. Simultaneously, they rehearse and reflect. You can see the result in a Double Bill. AMWD brings their version of Iphigenia in the decor of De Roovers at 7:00 PM. Then De Roovers bring their performance at 8:30 PM. Enthusiasts can see two versions of one theater text on the same evening. We close this last performance of the series festively and dancing in Het Theatercafé. adaptation Tiago Rodrigues - by and with Robby Cleiren, Sara De Bosschere, Amelie Luyckx, Luc Nuyens, Lilith Pas, Sofie Sente, Mil Sinaeve, Eliza Stuyck and Michael Vergauwen - © Stef Stessel - production de Roovers spelen vzw
