Layla Önlen - Bismillah (Turkish version) - 13 hours

A silent narrative. A look back at life. A box. One hundred meters of ribbon. A story that unrolls. In Bismillah weaves Layla her story into a collective experience. An intimate, physical, and poetic experience in the here and now. Intuitively, she chose words that she embroidered together with other women on a hundred-meter-long ribbon, as a tangible biography. In this performance, Layla invites you to jointly unroll the ribbon, and with it the lifeline. It results in a sensory experience of text, movement, sound, and participants. A ritual of meeting, which invites connection. Layla Önlen (1978) graduated in 2023 from the Toneelacademie Maastricht. In her work, she translates personal stories into universal, shared experiences. The deep-rooted fascination for textiles and rituals is expressed in the red ribbon, a recurring element in her practice.
