2009, Argentina. Three men from a mining company tried to drive the members of the indigenous Chuschagasta community off their land. The violent confrontation ended with the death of leader Javier Chocobar. This crime was filmed. Yet it took nine years of protests before the perpetrators were brought to justice. And even then, they claimed they had done nothing wrong. Voor de Argentijnse filmmaker Lucrecia Martel (La Ciénaga, Zama) is Nuestra Tierra her first documentary. Through archival footage, testimonies, court recordings, and a soundtrack with local music, Martel investigates the remnants of colonialism in Argentina. The result is as compelling as it is disturbing.
