After winning the first edition of the Koningin Elisabethwedstrijd for cello in 2017, Victor Julien-Laferrière developed into a versatile conductor. With this program, he takes on a dual role: as soloist and conductor at the head of - permanent guest in Hasselt - Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen.
Julien-Laferrière takes us on a journey along 400 years of music that begins and ends with the baroque. The starting point is the third orchestral suite of Bach with the famous Air. Then he treats us to a swirling solo with the first cello concerto of Saint-Saëns. Via de Haffner-symphony of Mozart we end up at Escaich. Or back at Bach, if you like. Want Baroque Song, with its Bach-like motif, is like a contemporary mirror of baroque music.
Na Opus 2020 of Richter (see Oct 09) brings the new artistic partner of CCHA with this work of Escaich in 26/27 a second Belgian premiere of an accessible, contemporary work.
