Fabrice (18) and Sammy (19) – best friends – are hitchhiking home, but the passing motorists do not really want to cooperate. Until finally one motorist offers them a lift: a certain Willy, a middle-aged man who turns out to have a very different destination in mind than they do. Willy turns out to be completely obsessed with his idol Johnny Hallyday, and drags the two teenagers along on an initially innocent-looking trip full of beer and karaoke. The story of 'MERCI JOHNNY' arose, according to director Fabrice Chan, from an incident that happened to him and his best friend 20 years ago: 'For years I told that story as an example of youthful naivety. But when I retold it a while ago, I realized how deeply that event affected everyone, and how serious the whole matter had been…' A psychological thriller that demonstrates how quickly a situation can turn around and get out of hand.
