Concertgebouw, concertzaal, Bruges

In this last program of the season, we hear the siren call of the summer vacation and dream of journeys that broaden our horizons. De Italiaanse composer Sollima embodies the multicultural character of his hometown Palermo. With echoes of all kinds of ethnic traditions from the Mediterranean area, Spasimo is an eclectic trip. Close your eyes and imagine yourself among citrus trees, jasmine, and the salty harbor air. Palermo comes to life! Mendelssohns Italiaanse then takes us through the Italian interior. The composer was barely 20 years old when he began writing the symphony during a European tour. Cheerfully, he takes you by the hand through the streets of Venice, Rome, Florence, and Naples. Is your suitcase ready?
