De Centrale, Ghent
€14–20
Nana Osei Twum Barima is a young multi-instrumentalist, singer, percussionist and dancer from Ghana who has been living and working in Ghent for several years. He grew up in a musical family and is a master of the seperewa, a traditional Ghanaian harp-lute. Nana Osei studied Ghanaian music at the Universiteit van Winneba and subsequently also immersed himself in the music and dance of the Akan. In his traditional West African music, you hear influences of Palmwine music, Akosua Tumtum, Nwomkro and Kundum. Nana Osei presents his debut album ‘Journey to the Unknown’ in De Centrale (released by Zephyrus Records). It is a deeply personal album, with which he musically brings to life the most poignant stories from his career. From loss and uprooting to love, faith and survival: every song tells a chapter, straight from the heart. On the record, you hear guest contributions from Nicolas Mortelmans (sitar), Roland Van Campenhout (guitar and voice), Lara Rosseel (double bass) and Kaito Winse (flute). They will also be there live, just like his permanent band Core Pareja (percussion), Raffaello Visconti (guitar) and Paa Kwesi (bass).
