BEYOND (8+) - Circumstances

Beyond is a dynamic, rousing and at the same time poetic circus and dance performance that tests, challenges and finally bridges our limits. This performance is certainly also suitable for families with children. Choreographer Piet Van Dycke works with six professional artists, each specializing in a different discipline: ladder walking, acro-dance, acro-bike, partner acrobatics and (pole) dance. On stage, they emerge as boundless bridge builders. With ladders, varying in size and height, the performers build impressive structures, such as arch sculptures and rotating cranes. They balance the ladders into an exciting, wobbly playing field. They explore unknown heights, climb, float and venture into a daring choreography. Every centimeter and every second is important. They seek the extremes and discover how far they can push each other. Physical dependence has never been so exciting. Beyond is about the vulnerability, absurdity, but also the power of boundaries, and how we can shift them by working together. Together we dance on the collective ladders of human imagination. Circumstances stands for a refined cross-pollination between circus, dance, music and scenography. Energetic and poetic performances full of suspense that move and connect. Choreographer Piet Van Dycke creates and directs boundary-shifting performances that strengthen the connection between people. The productions are experienced as a breath of fresh air within the circus field, evidenced by the BNG Bank prize (2021), Kinderjuryprijs Krokusfestival (2023) and selection Het TheaterFestival (2023). With straight ladders, the performers form a hexagonal prism that they climb, purely by keeping each other in balance. It is a wonderfully beautiful resting point, before working towards a spectacular climax.
