Walk "biodiversity and the management of Wijgmaalbroek"

Wijgmaalbroek lies on the border with Rotselaar and owes its natural value to the Dijle and the historical land use by former farmers. This centuries-old, small-scale land management created a varied bocage landscape with hay meadows, pastures, and a dense network of hedgerows, which ensured rich biodiversity. On this walk, we will discover together the value of a landscape with so many diverse elements. We will discuss common - but also rare - plants and animals, because both are present in this area thanks to years of intensive management. Would you like to walk along ponds with aquatic animals, hay meadows with special butterflies, and hear more about the birds in the area? You are welcome! Please bring binoculars if you have one, so we can view distant birds from closer up. Waterproof shoes are necessary. Boots are highly recommended in persistent wet weather. Only suitable for “outdoor” buggies with large wheels, not for other buggies and wheelchair users. Participation is free, but please register in advance.
