In this hybrid documentary, the Ministerie van Niet-Forgotten – a fictional new government body – investigates how an icon is etched into memory. Their first test subject: Marianne Faithfull. The officials, played by Tilda Swinton and George MacKay, are of the opinion that her image needs to be adjusted. With her 35 albums, this acclaimed singer is indeed an important cultural icon, but she is often described exclusively as the muse of Mick Jagger. Marianne Faithfull worked intensively on this film until shortly before her passing in January 2025 with directors Jane Pollard and Iain Forsyth. Not an average portrait of a singer-songwriter, but an idiosyncratic and intimate sketch of an inimitable rebel.
