Balkan Gipsy Night with Taraf Aurel Budisteanu

Fri, 26 Jun 2026 · 20:00
Art Base, Brussels
Aurel Budișteanu, Nicolas Hauzeur, Benjamin Clement, Zoli Kekenj Au chant: Elena Romanita Musique gypsy from Romania 100% Brussels, From the 30s to the beginning of the 90s, popular Romanian music experienced great phases of success abroad. In the 30s, Bucharest was called little Paris, and tango or cabaret tunes traveled from east to west, whether one was Piaff or Maria Tanase. In the 70s, the presence of flutist George Zamfir or composer Vladimir Cosma made several Romanian themes popular, including that of Grand Blond with a black shoe". Then, at the end of the Ceaucescu era, it was the Belgian Stephane Karo who pushed Taraf de Haidouks to international fame from Brussels where they perform discreetly, while the films of Gatliff or Kusturica make the gypsy soul of the Balkans burst onto the screen. Le Taraf Budișteanu makes us relive this extraordinary epic of popular and gypsy music from Bucharest. With accordion virtuoso Aurel Budisteanu, Elena Romanita on vocals, Nicolas Hauzeur on violin, Zoli Kekenj on double bass, and Benjamin Clement on guitar. https://youtu.be/AID3pbVtJpU?si=yvUTzjV7TbEJA4wd Art Base, Friday 26/6/26 8 PM, 20E (reduced 15E for students under 26 and jobseekers), 29 rue des Sables Zandstraat, 1000 Bruxelles.
