Sun, 13 Sept 2026 · 10:30
Café Sint-Sebastiaan, Michelbeke
Free
A trip along an iconic café, a station building, a water mill, and chapels. Walk with a guide along the Groenstraat and the Riedeplein, with attention to café Zwalmbond, a typical folk café, where the last landlady died in 1992, but is kept in its original state by the family and is still open during the weekends. The former station building, now a private home, the Berendries with the story of Emelie Loosveld, and via the Boterhoek to Boembeke, the water mill on the Zwalmbeek which can be visited separately. The way back runs along four chapels: Kapel van Plasmans, Chapel of the Vijf Linden, the chapels of Saint Sebastian and of the H. Hart van Maria. Furthermore, also the old municipal school, now a private home. Practical info: A part of the route is a dirt road. The protected water mill, the Boembekemolen, is not visited with the group but an individual visit is possible. One can then wait for the passage of the next group to complete the walk, or one can return individually via the old railway embankment. Accessibility: There is a piece of dirt road on the route.
