EARLY JAMES Frederick James Mullis Jr., better known as Early James, sounds as if Tom Waits and a bottle of bourbon together raised a child in the swamps of Alabama. His voice? Raw as sandpaper after a sandstorm. His music? A mix of blues, folk, and country with a corner off. Discovered by Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys), who immediately produced his debut album. Since then, he brings songs that sound as lived-in as they are smoke-filled. This is the south without a sugar coating: dirty, pure, and irresistible.
