Gitariste Emma Willis, cellist Octavie Dostaler-Lalonde, and soprano Fleur Strijbos form a special trio that creates sound possibilities rarely heard. On contemporary instruments, their original anthology works its way straight to your chamber music heart in no time! The program, featuring intimate and virtuosic miniatures from the 19th century, makes a grand tour through Europe. In Spanje have shared a folk tradition of guitar and voice for centuries; composers like Fernando Sor and Pablo de Sarasate sent that sound out into the wide world. German masters like Louis Spohr, Fanny Hensel, and Friedrich Dotzauer explored other paths and tied cello and guitar into subtle, contrapuntal dialogues. A name never to be forgotten is that of Pauline Viardot, whose songs can be heard in new arrangements. Viardot made a career in Paris, moved in the highest musical echelons, and navigated gracefully between Spanish folk, French mélodie, and Duits Lied.
