MATTIAS DE CRAENE AND BLACK KOYO - JAZZLAB CLUB CONCERT

An adventurous and intense fusion of contemporary and Gnawa music. Mattias De Craene is involved in a fascinating journey, both solo and with bands like Nordmann and MDCIII, in which jazz, electronics, drones, and the encounter between image and music play a role. Whether it concerns the exploration of contemporary sounds or live accompaniment for film, De Craene invariably leaves a personal mark on his creations. He searches and innovates, and proves that spirituality and technology do not have to stand in each other's way. With this project, he creates a fusion of traditional Gnawa music and his own sound world. He traveled to Morocco to get to know the cultural customs and musical traditions, and worked with local musicians and representatives of the Brussels Gnawa community (the largest outside Morocco). In the musicians of Black Koyo, he found the ideal allies to process his impressions and ideas into a crossover. Do not expect a slavish performance of North African styles or overly easy appropriation. What you will hear is an inventive and exciting mix of tradition and innovation, of earthly ritualism and ethereal exploration, provided with the dark edge that characterizes so much of De Craenes's music. It will not just be a meeting of cultures, but an entanglement, a dialogue in depth. 25 years of jazz at CC de Meent. This season, CC de Meent is celebrating no less than 25 years of jazz concerts in Beersel. On November 23, 2000, Nathalie Lories Trio was the first in a long line. In the meantime, we are approaching the milestone of 200 jazz concerts, with, in addition to the very greats from the Belgian and international jazz world, always attention for young, emerging talent. As a loyal partner of JazzLab, we are happy to present what is happening in Belgian jazz. Every season is different, but always diverse and surprising. During this anniversary year, the jazz concerts will have a permanent home in CLUB 77B, the brand-new club hall of CC de Meent. With this, we are ready for even more fine jazz evenings!
