Where the world is heading, that is where we are heading

Thirteen years ago, a man and a woman, ‘he’ and ‘she’, had to apologize. They wanted to tell you something about Denis Diderots Jacques, le fataliste et son maître, but just like the protagonist of that novel who never gets to tell his love story because he constantly gets lost in side stories and subplots, the man and the woman failed to untangle Diderot’s text for you. Their own relationship, of whatever nature, took over. They could not speak out – or did not want to speak out – about what was going on between them, for fear of breaking what was there by giving it language. That is why they kept talking, mainly to avoid talking about it. And precisely because of that, they threatened to lose each other. Thirteen years after the premiere, Ans Van den Eede and Greg Timmermans return with DE HOE to the source of all the love relationships they have experienced on stage since then. How do the texts from back then resonate with their lives now? And can they even still perform them? In their fickle homage to the art of conversation, Ans and Greg look back on their ideas about love at the time, secretly longing for their lost naivety. A reworking that is also a desperate attempt to return to who they once were.
