The program for this evening contains 5 parts: Music from the opera 'Dido and Aeneas' by H. Purcell, a number of fragments from the 'Messiah' by G. F. Händel, a song by F. Mendelssohn, a Waltz scene by Johan Wagenaar, and finally a number of romantic works by Peter Benoit. Arie Abbenes studied with Peter in Hilversum and with Piet van den Broek at the Beiaardschool van Mechelen. He obtained his final diploma in 1968 with the distinction 'Grote Onderscheiding'. Aan de Nederlandse Beiaardschool he was connected for 21 years as head teacher of carillon and professional-oriented minor subjects. He was city carillonneur of Asten, Eindhoven, Tilburg, Son, and Oirschot for a long time. In Utrecht he held the prestigious position of city carillonneur until 2011. He regularly advises on the maintenance and restoration of their historical instruments (also in our municipality). Many prizes were bestowed upon him. Arie is also honorary city carillonneur of Utrecht and Eindhoven.
