Within the framework of the Nature Restoration project Averbode Bos & Heath, measures are being taken that are particularly favorable for the nightjar. The nightjar is one of the target species of the project. This involves creating wide forest edges, ensuring sandy bare spots, and leaving some trees standing in the heathlands. Extensive grazing is ideally suited to obtain the mosaic structure desired for the species. During the walk, we can see how the 'Goatsucker' is doing.
