In 2006, Bhutan became the last country in the world to be connected to the Internet and television. But the country is experiencing an even deeper change: the transition to democracy. To teach people how to vote, the authorities organize mock elections, but the local population does not seem convinced. An election observer goes to the countryside, where religion is more popular than politics, and discovers that a monk is planning a mysterious ceremony for election day. The monk and the gun is a wonderful, slightly satirical, and heartwarming film, where humor is mixed with relevant reflections on the clash between Western and Eastern values, between tradition and modernization. Funny, intelligent, and – how could it be otherwise – punctuated with magnificent images of a unique country. Admission: free contribution.
