With several works arranged for carillon, Bas de Vroome treats us this evening to music by J.S. Bach, Christoph Willibald von Gluck (1714-1787), and the lesser-known William Selby (1738-1798). This concert is preceded by an organ recital from 6:30 PM - 7:00 PM. Here, Bas plays works by Johan Sebastian Bach including the 'Sechs Choräle von verschiedener Art'. Bas studied organ and church music at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam where he graduated 'summa cum laude' in 1986; after that, he followed the carillon training at the Nederlandse Beiaardschool and was also graduated 'cum laude' there. He won several first and second prizes at national and international organ and carillon competitions. Bas is a carillonneur in Vlaardingen, Rijnsburg, Naaldwijk, Wateringen, De Lier, and Spijkenisse and has been intensively involved in school projects for carillon for many years. He is the head organist of the Oude and Nieuwe Kerk in Delft. Since 1994, Bas de Vroome has been, together with Ben van Oosten, a principal subject teacher of organ at the Rotterdams Conservatorium.
