Are we aware of the fragility of our democracies? Can a democracy work if we no longer trust each other? In a far-reaching adaptation of Ilja Leonard Pfeijffers's monumental novel, Zuidpool brings the story of Alcibiades. None other than top actress Sofie Decleir embodies Greece's most controversial politician, unable to choose between his boundless self-love and the common interest of his people. At the same time, he holds up a confronting mirror to us. Is the people itself capable of knowing what is good for the people? And how important do we still find the truth, when probability is more desirable? A gripping story in a world where the democratic contract we have concluded with each other threatens to be broken at any moment. A glimpse into a system that is bumping against its limits, but for which there seems to be no better alternative. Based on the book of the same name by Ilja Leonard Pfeijffer, published by De Arbeiderspers │ Adaptation and direction: Koen van Kaam │ Cast: Sofie Decleir and Mona Lahousse │ Musical direction and performance: Jorgen Cassier │ Costume design: Thomas Van Imschoot and Sam De Mol │ Dramaturgy: Lore Meesters │ Lighting design: Mark Van Denesse │ Sound design and engineering: Daniël Stevens │ Video manipulation: Jan Snoekx │ with the support of the tax shelter of the Belgische Federale government via Perpodium € 2 discount in exchange for 5 UiTPAS points | exchange this benefit in the UiTPAS app or pop in and we will help you at the counter www.zuidpool.be © Koen Broos
