Plus Lecture | On the origin of philosophy, babble and drivel

Babbling toddlers, or people suffering from dementia, do not communicate clearly about their reality. On the contrary, they point to a referenceless existence or standing outside of linguistic reality. Their position causes discomfort. They are there, but they do not indicate how. Yet their babbling stems from something that is consciousness. From an ability to name mere existence in a meaningful way. That hesitant, doubting, drooling ability has the status of drivel and babble. Why that is and what forms it can take is investigated by several contemporary philosophers whom lecturer Jean Pierre Vanhee lets speak in this lecture.
