Kristien Hemmerechts began writing in a little planner that she got from her father in February 1982, by now more than forty years ago. Central to her work is the question: why do people do what they do? What motivates them? What goes on inside them? What takes place behind facades and roller shutters?
In her rich oeuvre she investigates those questions, sometimes in fiction, then again in non-fiction. For us she will read a number of striking passages from her work. She talks about the writing process, about the shyness she has had to overcome, about the question of whether there are limits to frankness, and why she writes about women more often than about men (although she also finds it great fun to slip into the skin of a man). Naturally, her most recent work, Requiem voor een liefde, is also covered.
