Day trip to the area around Dunkirk: culture, history, and conviviality.
(same program as on Saturday, March 28)
Let yourself be carried away on a fascinating day trip to the north of France, where history and art meet.
We will meet at the Reinaert library parking lot, Koning Boudewijnlaan 6, Lochristi, where the bus will be waiting for us.
Our first stop is Bourbourg, where we will discover the impressive Chœur de Lumière. This unique art project by the British sculptor Anthony Caro can be admired in the historic church of Bourbourg. It is a self-guided visit with a Dutch-language brochure in hand.
After that, we will continue to the charming fortified town of Gravelines. Here, we will explore the town along its main sights with a Dutch-speaking guide.
At noon, we will enjoy a well-prepared lunch together at Hotel Beffroi in Gravelines, with a menu consisting of a starter and a main course, and a coffee to finish.
In the afternoon, Dunkirk takes center stage. Tijdens de Dynamo Tour we will discover by bus, together with a guide, the places that played a crucial role during Operatie Dynamo in the Tweede Wereldoorlog. Afterwards, you can choose between a visit to the Operatie Dynamo Museum with an audio tour or a guided visit to the LAAC, the museum of modern and contemporary art.
Within walking distance of these two museums, we will conclude this versatile day at Wood & Bru, within walking distance. There, we will enjoy a tapas platter (cheese, meat, fish, or similar), a drink, and a dessert to chat about all the impressions of the day.
A day full of culture, history, and pleasant company. Are you coming along? Sign up quickly and experience it with us!
