Silent Friend

In the garden of the Philipps-Universiteit in Marburg stands an ancient ginkgo tree. As a silent witness, he watches over different generations of passersby. In 1908, Grete, the first female student of the university, points her camera at his majestic trunk. In 1972, a lovesick first-year student tends a geranium there. In 2020, a lonely neuroscientist from Hong Kong investigates the communication possibilities between man and nature during the silent years of the pandemic. The beauty of Silent Friend lies in subdued emotions, images that return in small variations, and in the conscious act of looking.
