I have sometimes The Blues
Belofte makes debt.
The previous album by Mama’s Jasje from 2023 was given the telling title Het Beste Moet Nog Komen. With their new record Ik Heb Wel Eens The Blues, Peter Vanlaet proves that these were not empty words.
Over the past two years, Peter wrote a series of new songs with a clear vision and a well-thought-out plan. His ambition was clear: to make a record that had not been made in Flanders before.
Blues is more than a music genre. It is a feeling. In songs like Aan een onbekende ziel (To an unknown soul) and Alleen (Alone), you hear that profound melancholy. In Mijn dag die net begon (Day that just began), Huidhonger (Skin hunger), Vanuit de onderbuik (From the gut), and the autobiographical Maak van je shit een hit (Turn your shit into a hit) form the basis of what might be the strongest Mama’s Jasje album ever, with classic blues riffs.
Inspired by songwriters like Jeff Buckley and Tom Waits, Peter, together with his five-piece band, brings the new songs to the stage, intense, honest, and straight from the heart.
The classics of Mama’s Jasje also receive a new layering in this performance, bathed in groaning blues notes and pure emotion.
With:
Peter Vanlaet, vocals
Bert Verschueren, guitar
Pieter Van Malder, keyboard
Wouter Berlaen, bass
