Talk café for those close to people with mental health vulnerabilities. Similes helps family, friends, neighbors, and anyone who feels involved with young people and adults suspected of having a mental health problem. In Kaffee Similes we discuss what we are experiencing together with other peers. We listen to each other. We exchange tips and look for solutions. We start from what is on the minds of those present and let the participants have their say. Everything is open for discussion, such as themes like: how to deal with crisis moments, what diagnosis might lie behind certain behavior, how do I set my boundaries, what about housing, personal needs, how do I deal with guilt, taboo, etc. A family peer support worker facilitates the conversations. She knows the mental health sector in Brussels and Halle-Vilvoorde very well. Kaffee Similes is there for contact among peers and has no medical function! Conversation facilitator: Mich Jonckheere, Similes family peer support worker.
