Immaculata

On an ordinary sunny school day, two students take weapons out of their backpacks during lunch break and cause a bloodbath. Immaculata tells the story of four young people and how they spend their last hours. The performance takes place in an ordinary middle school, somewhere in Flanders. In the shadow of the approaching violence, they share their thoughts on love, friendship, and future plans, or precisely the lack thereof. What starts as a recognizable story about life at school slowly changes into a harrowing reality in which every second counts. The text, originally written in 2004, is inspired by true events surrounding international school shootings in Columbine and Erfurt. Today, in an age of online hate and increasing radicalization, young people are also increasingly involved in violence. That is why the story still sounds disturbingly current. With a new generation of actors, Immaculata brings this theme back to life in a poignant and current reworking.
