Meet the actor: Sergi López

Meeting with Sergi López at Instituto Cervantes Brussels On Wednesday, 7 October at 6:30 p.m., we will have the pleasure of hosting a conversation with actor Sergi López, moderated by cultural journalist and Televisión Española correspondent in Brussels Mariana Gancedo. The session will begin with a screening of 'Remember Me' (2017), a short film starring Sergi López and directed by Belgian filmmaker Fabrice Murgia. The film tells the story of a theatre director who is abroad rehearsing an autobiographical play about his relationship with his father. The conversation will then explore Sergi López’s career and some of his most notable films, including 'Pan’s Labyrinth' ('El laberinto del fauno', Guillermo del Toro, 2006), on the occasion of the film’s 20th anniversary and the upcoming release of its remastered version in Brussels at the end of October. In addition, Sergi López will present his stage production 'Non Solum', which will be performed on 27 and 28 November at the Centre Culturel d’Uccle. Sergi López Sergi López Ayats (Vilanova i la Geltrú, Barcelona, 1965) is a Spanish actor with an extensive career in film, theatre and television. He trained at the École internationale de théâtre et mouvement in Paris and developed much of his career in France, where he gained international recognition and received the European Film Award for Best Actor in 2000 for 'Harry, un ami qui vous veut du bien' ('Harry, He's Here to Help'). He has appeared in films including 'Western', 'Solo mía', 'Pan’s Labyrinth', 'Map of the Sounds of Tokyo' ('Mapa de los sonidos de Tokio') and 'Sirat', among others. His portrayal of Captain Vidal in 'Pan’s Labyrinth' earned him several awards and distinctions. He has also developed a distinguished career in theatre. Together with director and actor Jorge Picó, he created 'Non Solum', which received the Max Award for Best Catalan-Language Theatre Author in 2010, followed by 30/40 Livingstone. Mariana Gancedo Journalist Mariana Gancedo is Televisión Española’s correspondent in Brussels. She holds a degree in Audiovisual Communication from the University of Navarra and, originally from Pamplona, has more than 20 years of experience at RTVE, working across different areas including Canal 24 Horas, the Telediario news programme and La 2. She has worked as a parliamentary correspondent, covering political affairs, and as deputy editor of Telediario. In recent years, Mariana Gancedo has also focused on cultural journalism, contributing to programmes such as the magazine Culturas 2 and the interview programme La matemática del espejo on La 2.
