Walking together in Olens Broek - with writer Walter van den Broeck

Our nature walk explores the Olens Broek, one of the last remnants of the large marsh complex Geels Gebroekt. In 1993, the Flemish government started the restoration as a nature reserve after both agricultural activities and the straightening of the Kleine Nete had exhausted and dried it out. Today it has a great variety of landscapes and fauna. The nearby 'Cité' was described by the writer in a popular, accessible, comical style in his 'Letter to Baudouin' (1980). Everyone welcome; participation is free; walking shoes necessary; route approx. 9.5 km. Carpool: own transport or cost-sharing (10 ct/km).
