De Renaissance began in Baghdad

The Muslim world has never contributed anything to Europe. It is a statement we often hear. But is that really so? Koert Debeuf shows in his lecture that the opposite is true. Europe was inspired by the architecture of the Middle East as we can see in Romanesque and Gothic churches. Philosophically, the influence of Arab philosophers was also great. Without those philosophers, Europe would have known a very different Renaissance, for example. Debeuf sketches a very different picture of history than what we learned at school and brings new insights into the relationships between the West and the East.
