As an advent program in the Quinten en kwarten series, the traditional Christmas concert of the Vlaams Radiokoor is scheduled for this year. It will be a warm winter concert evening that brings peace, stillness, and soft light through no less than five centuries of choral music, from subdued Renaissance to glowing contemporary.
Dirigent Peter Dijkstra, internationally acclaimed as a vocal music specialist, compiled a refined program that combines intimate and minimalist works with age-old Christmas classics.
The devotional power of Anton Bruckner immediately sets the tone with a world full of deep spiritual power, which seamlessly transforms into the clear, festive polyphony of Johannes Eccard.
The dreamy arrangement that Jan Sandström made of the old classic Es ist ein Ros entsprungen marks the transition to the refined French colors of Francis Poulenc and the contemporary voices of Gabriel Jacksons and Morten Lauridsen. As a finale, a tender and timeless Silent Night provides the ultimate Christmas experience.
More performances in the Quinten en kwarten series on 23 Oct 26, 23 Mar 27, and 21 May 27.
