De Traverse - Music theater about the Iceland voyage

De Noordzee: cold, stormy, ruthless. It was once the transit area for the Iceland fishermen – fishermen who risked their lives between hope, danger, and survival. In In De Traverse, this raw existence is brought to life in a powerful musical theater play between fisherman and sea. A rich performance as an ode to the fishing families of the Iceland trade that will move many people. After a sold-out Casino in Blankenberge, this creation is coming to Bredene. For over 25 years, the polyphonic singing of the Shantykoor Blankenberge has sounded like a fresh northern breeze: simple, authentic, and great in emotion. Their music takes the spectator onto the deck of a wooden ship, while the waves pound against the hull and adventure beckons on the horizon. Voices that interpret fear, loneliness, grief, but above all courage and camaraderie. The folk art group Reuzegom from Leuven adds color and strength to the Iceland story with a choreography that makes the raw life both festive and moving. Especially noteworthy is the perfectly chosen clothing that takes us back to the fishing people of the 18th - 19th century. The tension between 'Sea' and 'Fisherman' is powerfully but poetically presented by Aïsha Butseraen (Bredene) and Jeremie Dobbels (De Haan). Inspired by testimonies of local Iceland fishermen.
