Exhibition - Philippe Derchain

From July 3, 2026, to August 1, 2027, the Musées de Verviers pay tribute to the painter Philippe Derchain (1873-1947), a major figure of the Verviers School. Bringing together a remarkable collection of rarely shown works from public and private collections, the exhibition unveils a painter who makes the simplest moments vibrate: an interior bathed in silence, a landscape crossed by light, a suspended gesture. Just like Maurice Pirenne and Georges Le Brun, Derchain is classified among the Verviers Intimists, in reference to their common aesthetic where the silence of interiors, the tranquility of landscapes, and the meticulousness of gestures reign. An invitation to enter into the intimate and to rediscover a regional artistic treasure that is still just as relevant today.
