The voice of Mozart - Stefaan Degand, actor & Susato Trio

“One sees it tremble and waver, one sees how the swelling chest rises (…), one hears the whispering and sighing.” In a letter from 1781, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart describes how music becomes almost visible. In those words, a composer expresses himself for whom music is not an abstract art, but a direct expression of feeling, movement, and imagination. In De voice of Mozart, actor Stefaan Degand and the Susato Trio bring a performance in which his word and his music enter into dialogue with each other. Fragments from the letters, sometimes light and playful, then again sharp or moving, are interwoven with movements from his piano trios. Beyond the image of an untouchable genius, Mozart emerges as a young artist full of energy and doubts, humor and melancholy, searching for his place in the world. Het Susato Trio - which won both the first prize and the audience award at Supernova 2024 - approaches this repertoire with a fresh and thoughtful look, in which rhetoric, character, and mutual dialogue are central.
